School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) at Keebra Park State High School

Keebra Park State High School is committed to providing students with real-world learning opportunities through School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs). These programs allow students to gain paid, hands-on experience in a professional work environment while working towards a nationally recognised qualification—all while completing their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

Why Choose a SAT?

  • Earn While You Learn – Get paid while gaining industry experience in your chosen field.
  • Career Pathways – SATs provide a direct pathway into full-time employment, TAFE, university, or a trade career.
  • QCE Contribution – SAT qualifications contribute towards a Certificate II, III, or higher, counting towards QCE credits and, in some cases, ATAR rankings.
  • Workplace Readiness – Develop confidence, industry skills, and a competitive edge when applying for future jobs.

Who Can Apply?

Students in Years 10, 11, and 12 are eligible to participate in a SAT. Successful applicants must be motivated, committed to balancing school and work responsibilities, and willing to develop industry-specific skills.

Application Process

1.      Check Available SAT Opportunities

  • Visit the Industry Liaison Officer or check the career boards throughout the school for current vacancies.
  • Please note: Not all positions are arranged through the school. Students may need to find an employer independently.

2.      Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) Form & your resume

  • Complete an Expression of Interest form from the Industry Liaison Officer or via the related link section at the top of this page.

3.      Prepare a digital copy of your resume and email to mwhit602@eq.edu.au

4.     To meet requirements, you must have a laptop and a USI number.

(For construction-related SATs, a White Card is required before commencing work.)

5.      Employer Referral & Interview

  • The Industry Liaison Officer will forward applications to employers or training providers.
  • Students will be required to attend an interview and may be asked to participate work trial (depending on the workplace).

6.       Final Steps

  • If successful, the student and parent/guardian will attend a sign-up session with the employer.

For more information, visit the Industry Liaison Officer upstairs in F Block. Or refer to the documents linked to the right of the screen.

Bear in mind, these opportunities will be assessed on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with the Head of Senior Schooling, Ms Leden and Head of Department of VET and Pathways, Mr Hart.

Work Experience Opportunities

We encourage students over the age of 14 to participate in work experience placements to gain industry experience. Students can complete 30 days per calendar year.

These unpaid placements allow students to:

✔ Explore career options before committing to a SAT or full-time employment.
✔ Develop skills in a real work setting.
✔ Build connections with potential employers.

How to Apply for Work Experience:

  • Visit the Industry Liaison Officer to discuss available placements.
  • Obtain parent/guardian consent and complete the necessary paperwork.

  • Arrange a placement with a local employer in your field of interest.
  • Attend work experience on the scheduled dates and complete any required reflections or reports.
