Snack Program

Keebra park student and the snack program
Our Year 10, 11 and 12 students who went to Cambodia and Vietnam during the September holidays are again supporting the SNACK Program that they participated in when in Cambodia. S.N.A.C.K. Program-Cambodia is a charity run by a couple, Dennis and Sharon Welch, who are spending their retirement helping malnourished children in Cambodia. Sharon and Dennis and a hardworking team raise funds to deliver nutritious snacks and vitamin fortified soy milk four times a week to undernourished children in rural villages some distance from Phnom Penh. The snack is a highly nutritious peanut paste on a vitamin enriched baguette. The children love them and are so grateful to have something to eat, especially something that is nutritious. Dennis and Sharon hope to provide them with enough nutrition in their developmental years to allow brain and physical development to be normal. These kids were some of the poorest we saw - some could not even afford undies or clothes. Donated flannelette pyjamas were their best clothes that some wore for our benefit. Flannelette in the tropics on a 40 degree day!!
Our students travelled out to a village with the SNACK team. They served the food to the kids; they dressed their cuts, scrapes and sores; they painted their finger nails (and the kids painted ours – including the boys); they played and danced with the children and had a ball. We thought we were going to be improving the lives of the children and bringing them some joy, but it was they who brought us joy and it was the children who taught us to appreciate what we have. It was the most rewarding day of our holiday.
Last Saturday, Lauren and Isabella and Isabella’s mum (thanks Lucia) and Mr and Mrs Lucas had a sausage sizzle at Woolworths Australia Fair to raise some money to send to the SNACK Program. It costs $120.00 to feed a child per year.  It was a quiet day at Aus Fair because of the heat and schoolies, but we have raised enough to send. The SNACK team have already thanked us for the money and were glad to hear from the students. Our students hope to continue their association the program. Thanks Puneet, Kaylah, Darshei, Terina, Beaudee, Kazan, Brett, Jaxson, Tyrone, Lauren, Isabelle, Tahnie, Kelly and Hannah.
