Dance students at Keebra Park

Musgrave Hill Primary School dance students were ablaze with excitement on Wednesday 2nd April, and were anxiously awaiting a visit from some very special guests.  At 11:30 they arrived …. The Keebra Park State High School Hip Hop Dance Team burst through their gates and into their performing area.

Ms O’Regan, Keebra Park’s dance teacher and Ms Leitch, Musgrave’s arts coordinator, had put their heads together to create this fantastic workshop opportunity for both sets of students.  “After seeing Keebra Park perform at the ‘Rise Up’ competition, I thought it would be wonderful to have them come and teach our students some of their moves,“ explained Ms Leitch.  “I know they had been very successful in 2013 winning awards and competitions throughout the Gold Coast and Brisbane and asked Ms Jess O’Regan if she would bring Keebra to work with the Musgrave students.

Shalar said, ”Our dance team decided it would be a great idea to share our talents with some gifted dancers from Musgrave Hill State School.  We took 10 dancers from our Hip Hop team over to Musgrave State School for an afternoon dance workshop.  18 talented dancers in Year 4, 5 and 6 worked very hard to learn a hip hop dance to Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”.  At the end of the workshop we performed for the rest of the school.”

“We all had a great day and really enjoyed working with Musgrave Hill Primary School students” said Keebra Park School Captain and dancer, Kendall.  “We are looking forward to this workshop which will be held again in Term 2 and 3, then in Term 4 the Musgrave students will visit us at Keebra to perform on the Junior Secondary Parade.”

This collaboration is part of our transition program giving students the opportunity to experience high school before their first day.  It allows them to create friendships with older students so they see some friendly and helpful faces when they arrive.
