Asian Study Tour

11/08/2014

Fourteen of our year 10 and 11 students are getting very excited about their terrific Educational and Community Service Tour of Cambodia and southern Vietnam in the September holidays. The will enjoy the history and culture of these amazing countries. Some of the sites we will visit include Water puppet theatres, museums, Temple of Cao Dai, Cu Chi Tunnels, the Mekong River delta, farms which produce bees, orchids and snakes (!!), floating markets, the killing Fields, Toul Song secret prison and the Angkor temple complex.

As the community service component the students will provide school and sport equipment to needy children in Cambodia. The students will teach them games (Perhaps they have some budding soccer or touch football stars among them.) We will also show the children of a rural village and an orphanage how to clean infections and how to wash their hair and brush their teeth.

The students are working hard to raise money to supplement their costs and to purchase books, balls, pencils, etc. On Saturday 16th August we have a sausage sizzle at Woolworth’s supermarket at Ashmore Plaza in Cotlew Street. So, please support the students and come and buy a sausage and/or a soft drink.

They have also been selling chocolates – lots of chocolates. (Many teachers have put on a couple of kilos!!) Now they are also selling Gold Coast Community Fund Raffle tickets. First prize is a $20 000 spending spree at Harvey Norman. Second prize is a $10 000 spending spree, also at Harvey Norman. Tickets can also be purchased from Mrs Lucas in the Maths Staffroom.

The kids are struggling to raise the money to help cover their costs and to purchase the sporting and educational equipment. So don’t forget to come and buy a sausage on Saturday 16th or purchase a raffle ticket or two form us.
