Daily
Attendance Policy - Students
School begins at 8.45am each day either with a Year Assembly
or Home Group meeting. This is where registration of student
attendance is recorded by Home Group Teachers. Students who
do not have their attendance recorded will be allocated an
unexplained absence for that day. Students follow a timetable
of scheduled classes or program arranged by Administration.
Students are required to attend every class for which they
are scheduled. Failure to do so without a satisfactory explanation
will be considered a truancy. Sport is a compulsory part of
the school curriculum. It, like all other activities timetabled
for students, is compulsory. In all instances where students
are unable to participate for a valid reason, an alternate
educational activity will be allocated.
LATENESS
Students arriving at School after 9:00am are required to bring
a note of explanation from parents to the rolls room to register
daily attendance. Their names will be recorded and they will
be handed a LATE DOCKET. Where no parental explanation for
the lateness is supplied, students will be issued with a REPLY
DOCKET to be signed by parents and returned to the Rolls Room
by the student the next day.
Students who, through timetable considerations, usually arrive
at school after 9am must also sign in at the Rolls Room and
will be issued with a LATE DOCKET.
LEAVING
SCHOOL GROUNDS
Students must attend school every school day. Attendance requires
the physical attendance of students in school. Students are
NOT permitted to leave the school grounds at any time during
the school day except in the following circumstances:
Parents may request in writing a leave of absence from school
for a student to receive medical treatment, dental treatment,
to receive specialised instruction or for other valid reasons
Should the Principal deem that the reasons provided on the
written request compromise the safety or the good order and
management of the school, the Principal has the right to override
the parental request. Please note : shopping, buying lunch,
going home for lunch are legally NOT valid reasons. Students
wishing to leave the school grounds during the day must see
one of the Deputy Principals or Principal to sign the parental
request and take the signed note to the office where a valid
EARLY LEAVING DOCKET will be generated.
Students who, through timetable considerations, usually leave
the school before 3pm must also sign out at the office and
request a valid EARLY LEAVING DOCKET.
ROLL
MARKING
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their
attendance is recorded during Home Group, on Year Assembly,
at sport and during classes.
ABSENCE
Parents must ensure their child arrives at school for their
educational program on time every day. It is also the responsibility
of the parent to minimise disruptions to the child’s
school day so that the child has the best opportunity to learn.
Parents are asked to contact the school prior to any planned
absences, provide an explanation within two days of the student’s
return to school, each time their child is absent from school.
This may take the form of:
o a medical certificate
o a written explanation note containing the student’s
name, dates and reasons for absence
o a verbal explanation via a phone call or visit to the school

Assessment Policy
(Senior Phase)
1. CONDITIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS
• A clear outline of assessment will be centrally issued
to all students each semester.
• Class teachers will issue to students specific assessment
tasks which clearly state requirements including task description,
due dates and criteria against which student performance or
achievement will be measured. Teachers will articulate task
requirements before students address the assessment task.
• Responses to assessment tasks must be the student’s
own work.
• Failure to comply with student responsibilities regarding
assessment may incur failure to achieve semester credit and/or
subject Exit Level of Achievement.
2.
ASSESSMENT POLICY (SENIOR PHASE OF LEARNING – YEARS
10, 11 & 12)
2.a Substantive requirements - No student
is exempt from meeting any of the substantive requirements
of a syllabus for Authority and Authority Registered subjects.
Substantive requirements are those aspects of the syllabus
that are considered mandatory from which definitions of criteria
and standards are derived for awarding exit levels of achievement.
Any student judged to have not met all of the mandatory requirements
of a subject (ie there is insufficient evidence of knowledge
or skill in a mandatory section of the syllabus) either by
non submission of a task or failure to sit an exam may
not be awarded an Exit Level for that subject.
2b
Student Responsibilities re submission of assessment
In accordance with QSA Policy Statement of June 2004 re late
and non-submission of student assessment tasks (www.qsa.edu.au/memos/04/043-43)
, Keebra Park State High School requires ALL students to satisfy
two requirements:
1. A student must submit ALL assessment tasks outlined
in the subject’s assessment plan.
• Where illness prevents a student from meeting this
requirement, a detailed medical certificate should be provided
to the Principal.
• Where other special circumstances prevent a student
from meeting this requirement, a parent/carer/student interview
should be arranged with the Principal.
2.
A student must submit assessment tasks during the due week.
• Where illness prevents a student from meeting this
requirement and an extension to the due date is needed, a
detailed medical certificate should be provided to the Faculty
Head of Department.
• Where other special circumstances prevent a student
from meeting this requirement, a parent/carer/ phone call
or interview or student interview should be arranged with
the Faculty Head of Department.
2c
Where a student fails to meet any of these two requirements,
the student will be asked to either:
• Provide evidence of work-to-date on the task and this
evidence will be assessed against the criteria or
• The student will be given an opportunity to complete
the assessment task during class time.
Assessment
tasks – staged or interim completion of tasks
will form the basis of all assignment/project/performance
tasks. Teacher judgements against stated criteria will be
made at each stage. At least two interim and one final judgement
should be made. If a student does not submit at any
one stage before the final stage, a letter will be
sent to parents advising of this. If a student fails to submit
any stage at all, a letter will be sent to
parents advising them that the student will be asked to conform
with requirements detailed in section 2c. The deadline for
the submission of an assessment task will be for a particular
week (eg the week beginning 07/11/07). Due dates as part of
the conditions for assessment will be articulated to students
prior to their commencement of the task.
Mobile
Phone and Personal Electronic Devices Policy
Senior Phase Students who bring mobile
phones and other personal electronic devices (such as CD players,
i-pods, MP3/4 Players etc) to school with parent permission
may do so providing that parents and students understand that
the school accepts no responsibility for their loss or theft.
As with all valuable items, students are reminded to be personally
cautious of their security at all times.
Mobile phones and other electronic
devices are to be kept turned off, kept out of sight and are
not to be used during class time. Mobile phones are not to
be used in any manner or place that is disruptive to the normal
routine of the school or to the learning environment. Failure
to comply with this may result in the phone being confiscated
for the day.
Students and parents are reminded of
the appropriate Privacy Acts applicable to taking a photograph
of another person. In phone cameras are not to be used anywhere
a normal camera would be considered inappropriate. Mobiles
with camera functions are discouraged at school.
Internet
– Student Usage Policy
This policy applies to students’ use of public online services
for teaching and learning purposes, including Intranet, Internet and
email services within Education Queensland. Education Queensland provides
public online services such as the Internet, to enhance teaching and
learning. Obviously there are tremendous benefits, but also some dangers.
In response to these and other issues, a Computer Use Agreement has
been developed. Parents and students are required to sign acknowledgment
and acceptance of this agreement which will be provided upon enrolment
and is valid for the period of enrolment at Keebra Park State High School.
A copy of the front page of the agreement is provided below:
I understand that:
• Computers and other information technology resources at Keebra
Park State High School are intended for use in learning.
• When using “global” systems such as the Internet,
it is impossible for the school to screen or filter out all material
that is controversial, inappropriate or offensive. It is therefore
each student’s RESPONSIBILITY not to initiate access to such
material or to distribute such material by copying, storing or printing.
I agree that:
I will use information technology resources appropriately and legally
as detailed below:
• I will not eat or drink near any school owned computer equipment.
• I will not damage computer equipment or furniture.
• I will not use any school computer equipment for arcade style
games.
• I will not attempt to break copyright (eg. by illegally copying
software).
I will be considerate to other users:
• I will give educational purposes priority.
• I will not monopolise equipment.
• I will not deliberately waste computer resources (eg. unnecessary
printing).
• I will not intentionally disrupt the smooth running of the
network (eg. by downloading large files from the Internet during busy
times such as class time).
• I will not scan or display graphics; record or play sounds;
or type messages that could cause offence to others.
I will accept responsibility for privacy and
security.
I will only use disks to backup work or to transfer work to and from
home.
I will not attempt to upload or create computer viruses or be involved
with other forms of electronic vandalism.
I will report any security problems immediately to a class teacher
or to the Information Technology Head of Department.
I will not reveal my personal address or phone umber or those of other
students or staff in any electronic communications.
I accept that:
Breaching this agreement will result in my being prohibited from using
the network temporarily or permanently depending on the seriousness
of the offence and that this may be recorded on my student record.
For more serious matters where a criminal offence occurs, further
disciplinary and/or legal action may be taken as outlined in the school’s
Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students.
Communication
We
believe that communication from school to home and home to school
is of the highest importance.
To
ensure that the channels of communication are open, a range of methods
have been established.
We
believe ongoing communication formally and informally, promotes the
best interest of the total school community.
1.
1. The Keebra

Student Planner communication. Each student will annually
receive a student organiser as part of the Curriculum Resources
Scheme. Parents and teachers may communicate with each other
via this means.
4.
Information and Celebration Evenings for a range of specific activities.
Parents are regularly invited to the school to facilitate their involvement
in decision making for student options, subject and career choices,
pathways information and celebration of student achievement.
5.

and school personnel assists students who may be experiencing
difficulty in any number of areas. By telephoning the school
office, an appointment may be made with the most appropriate
person to assist you.
Keebra
Park State High Curriculum Resources Scheme
PARENT
INFORMATION
Keebra Park State High offers Senior Phase students and parents/
carers a Curriculum Resources Scheme which, upon payment of
the parents’ contribution, will provide student/s with
all resources necessary to successfully negotiate the Senior
Phase Curriculum. This includes Text Books, resource materials,
computer hard and software, limited Internet access (30Mb)
and printing, a Student Planner, ID Card and School Magazine.
Interschool sport costs for Terms 1 and 2 are also covered.
This includes bus travel, equipment, team uniforms and venue
costs (including Interhouse Swimming). (Students selected
for Regional, State and National Representative sport will
be levied charges by the Queensland Secondary Schools Sports
Association which are additional costs to be borne by parents.)
The scheme is operated
in such a manner so that all funds generated through the Scheme
are returned to the school for student use.
Stationery items
(exercise books, pens, pencils etc) are not included. These
items can be purchased from the Book Shop at competitive prices,
which also helps your school.
Whilst membership
of the scheme is voluntary, parents/carers will find that
it provides considerable savings compared to buying the textbooks
and resources, paying a contribution for each subject taken
by the student/s and paying weekly sport fees. It allows texts,
resources and ICT hard and software to remain current and
is of benefit to parents.
International students are automatically members of the Curriculum
Resources Scheme.
CONTRIBUTIONS
The funding of the scheme requires the bulk payment of Textbook
Allowance cheques to the school and a parent contribution
payment. Core resources will be distributed to students until
the parent contribution is paid. Contribution rates vary for
Senior Phase students depending on subjects selected. Some
subjects are run at high cost and the Senior Phase operates
a user pays system. Information about subject costs is available
on the Curriculum Resources Scheme proforma issued to every
student.
REFUNDS
Refunds to departing students are to be calculated on a weekly
pro-rata basis and will be issued upon the return of all books
and materials. Similarly, students who enrol during the year
will be charged on a weekly pro-rata basis.
ARRANGEMENT
FOR PAYMENT
Payment may be made by cash or Eftpos, Bankcard/Mastercard/Visa
at the Bookshop. No other cards can be accepted. Cheques will
not be accepted unless prior arrangements are made with the
Registrar.
If financial difficulty is experienced in meeting the costs
of joining the scheme, parents are strongly encouraged to
contact the Principal at their earliest convenience so that
a payment plan may be negotiated.
NON
SCHEME MEMBERS
If it is elected not to join the scheme, parents will be invoiced
for subject contributions and will be required to provide
their own textbooks, resources and weekly sport fees.
REPORTING
All parents can expect detailed semester reports
from the school early in July (after Semester One) and towards the
end of the school year (for Semester Two). Enquiries resulting from
this are cordially invited. Please phone the school for assistance.
Mid-semester reports will be allocated to all students at the end
of Term One. These are progress reports and serve to inform parents
and students as to the academic progress and achievement of the student
as at that time of the year.
A program of Parent-Teacher interviews will
be organised at the end of Term 1 to enable parents to discuss student
progress with teachers. Detailed information will be posted with the
report well in advance of the proposed dates so that parents have
ample time to make the necessary arrangements to attend.
If at any other time parents feel the need
to talk to teachers about their student's progress, please feel free
to contact the school office so that appointments may be arranged.
We see this as an important part of
maintaining close and open relationships between school and home.
SENIOR
PHASE OF LEARNING
A
MESSAGE TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS
In
order to be successful in the Senior Phase of Learning, students and
parents will need to be aware of the importance of effective time
management and practice efficient strategies.
· Be in attendance at school every day and
attend all classes
· Utilise the Student Planner provided for
every student to record due dates for assessment, Shutdown, excursions
etc
· Work steadily from the start of the year
to stay in contact with academic and assessment requirements.
· Schedule a balanced approach to study, homework,
assignment completion, sport, work and family commitments.
Semester
achievement in each subject is made by subject teachers against a
set of existing criteria.
Achievement
levels are:
Very High Achievement VHA / A
High Achievement HA / B
Sound Achievement SA / C
Limited Achievement LA / D
Very Limited Achievement VLA / E
A rating of "N" indicates insufficient evidence for a semester rating.
