Australian Culinary Challenge Luke
C. & Kieran S. - Bronze
Rising Chefs To encourage and promote young people in the hospitality industry the Chefs of Queensland Association with Les Torques Blanches and major sponsors Simplot have established the Queensland Rising Chefs of the Future Cultural Culinary Challenge. This prestigious skills competition was held on Tuesday 11th April at the Brisbane convention and exhibition centre.
Teams of high school students had to devise a main course and a dessert using a specified set of ingredients and present three serves of these in 90 minutes. Over 50 teams competed from schools from throughout the state in a live hot cook off competition.
Professional chefs from some of Queensland’s finest dining and training establishments judged the students work on the following criteria, composition, degree of difficulty/creativity, correct preparation, practical up-to-date serving and presentation.
Two teams represented Keebra in this years competition. The very experienced year 12 team of Kylie Hawkins and Jiselle Koen and Year 11 young guns Daniel White and Megan Fernandez. Both teams worked extremely well and presented beautiful meals and for their outstanding efforts Daniel and Megan were awarded a Bronze Medal and Kylie and Jiselle outclassed the field with the highest scoring Gold Medal of the competition.
For their tremendous efforts the girls have won a trip to the Tasting Australia Festival in Adelaide later on this year along with their teacher Ms Lisa Murphy.
Congratulations to all involved and a huge thank you to Mrs Jones, Mr Brown and Mrs Hallett for actively supporting and promoting Vocational Education in our school.
